HERE IF YA NEED

Here If Ya Need is a comedy feature film about a family of sisters, mothers and daughters. Think Bridesmaids meets Little Miss Sunshine. We have heightened dramatic moments throughout which mostly explores the theme of mature women feeling invisible. We meet one of our main characters, VIV passed out in a toilet cubicle of the bar she was partying in the night before, her phone is ringing. It’s older sister RONNIE who is waiting for her at the psychologists office, Viv is a no show and this is the last straw for Ronnie. Time for a family intervention. She organizes a weekend away with her three sisters, little do they know she has entered them into the Albury Netball Tournament because netball used to bond them as kids. They need 7 to make up a team so some of their nieces are along for the ride. Another sister Anette, the up market juice mogul is more concerned with her thriving business than her two daughters, one who is is secretly having a baby with her girlfriend, and the other would rather be on a stage somewhere in an oversized cats costume and can’t catch a ball to save her life. Last but not least, youngest sister Evie is having her own relationship woes which she sabotages by having a fling with the local netball nazi! We soon discover that everyone has their own secrets to keep but they all begin to come unraveled. Things go awry on the road trip, the car runs off the road, a boys footy trip waylays them and their accommodation is given away so they find themselves in overflow accommodation. No-one is keen to play netball, they came here to party. The first night is spent getting into mischief at the local RSL. Viv is determined not to bow to Ronnie’s bossy ways, she doesn’t need “fixing”. Conflict brews throughout our crew but when all seems lost, think spangled G-Strings, hunky strippers and copius amounts of alcohol. One hunk in particular catches Ronnie’s eye. Ronnie has long suspected that her own marriage is in trouble, and this is confirmed for her throughout the weekend. Viv’s self destruction continues until she realizes Ronnie actually needs her help. Galvanised into action, Viv shows up at the last minute straps on her knee brace and joins the game. Together, her and Ronnie pull off an amazing upset victory against their arch nemesis team who are twenty years younger than them. This is where our title comes in, it’s the catch cry that you’ll hear ringing from netball courts all over the country, It’s how you let your teammates know you see them and you’re here for them and it’s what Viv finally says to Ronnie that reconciles their relationship and wins them the tournament. I’m Here If Ya Need!! A staggering 20 million people in over 70 countries play netball but forget the stats, how many women’s sporting movies can you recall. They’re rarely made but when they are they are received so well. Bend It Like Beckham, A League of Their Own, Blue Crush. Women in sport are finally being glorified, a statue of Sharelle McMahon, Australian netballer was just unveiled, Tayla and that famous kick was immortalized in bronze and womens sport is on the rise across the board. The sporting arena is one of the few places where women – at any age – can express their fullest potential, be competitive, be assertive and be rewarded for it. Where women are measured for who they are, not how they look. That’s what women crave, it’s why they’ll relate to our characters and it’s the reason female sport is hugely popular.

MORE THAN A NUMBER

The feature length documentary “More Than A Number” (in development), examines the rote memorization methodology of schooling and the outcome when all this culminates with one score that defines 13 years of school. It’s the morning ATAR scores will be received by all year 12 students in Victoria. Jordy has recently decided on a course she wants to study and she needs a 75-80 score. Nervously she checks her phone to receive her score. It’s nowhere near the score she needs and it’s devastation all around. Jack is currently debating if he actually needs an ATAR score at all since his dream is to become a musician. Jack will go on a reconnaissance mission to explore the alternatives available to him and along the way he will talk to fellow students who will explain how the stress of exams has affected their mental health. More Than A Number will seek out innovators in education in order to provide alternative solutions to the current system and explore new pathways in education.
